A whistleblower is a person who exposes any kind of information or activity that is deemed illegal, unethical, or not correct within an organization that is either private or public. The information of alleged wrongdoing can be classified in many ways: violation of company policy/rules, law, regulation, or threat to public interest/national security, as well as fraud, and corruption. Those who become whistleblowers can choose to bring information or allegations to surface either internally or externally. Internally, a whistleblower can bring his/her accusations to the attention of other people within the accused organization such as an immediate supervisor. Externally, a whistleblower can bring allegations to light by contacting a third party outside of an accused organization such as the media, government, law enforcement, or those who are concerned. Whistleblowers, however, take the risk of facing stiff reprisal and retaliation from those who are accused or alleged of wrongdoing.

My, my, sniff that cornscateous air. I suppose it smells like money to farmers and like heavenly food to sweet-corn lovers. But that air is hot, humid and heavy and makes air conditioning my constant companion. “Cornscateous” (pronounced “corn SKAY shuss”) is really a word if you believe the Old Farmer’s Almanac. I tried to look it up in my 1971 dictionary and my 2009 edition, and the word isn’t there. The old almanac makers dreamed it up, I figure, and used it to signify a time in July when the air is damp and warm, which the farmers considered ideal for growing corn. Keep smilin’, folks, it looks good on you.

When the piercing power and sultry heat of the sun abate, and almighty Zeus sends the autumn rains, and men's flesh comes to feel far easier,—for then the star Sirius passes over the heads of men, who are born to misery, only a little while by day and takes greater share of night—then, when it showers its leaves to the ground and stops sprouting, the wood you cut with your axe is least liable to worm.

25 June of each year is the "Day of the Seafarer", recognizing the invaluable contribution seafarers make to international trade and the world economy, often at great personal cost to themselves and their families. By generating interaction on the web about seafarers, we want to show respect, recognition and gratitude to seafarers everywhere. The universal outreach of social media will raise awareness of the vital role that seafarers play in the world economy and, in many respects, in sustainable development, enabling ships to carry than 90% of world trade safely, efficiently and with minimal impact on the environment.

The successful preaching of Christianity at Antioch to non-Jews led the church at Jerusalem to send Barnabas there to oversee the movement (Acts 11:20–22). He found the work so extensive and weighty that he went to Tarsus in search of Paul (still referred to as Saul), "an admirable colleague", to assist him. Paul returned with him to Antioch and labored with him for a whole year (Acts 11:25–26). At the end of this period, the two were sent up to Jerusalem (44 AD) with contributions from the church at Antioch for the relief of the poorer Christians in Judea.

The day can be used to reexamine your goals, find paths to achieve them, and instill in yourself the belief that your goals are attainable. The hope that you can achieve your goal is what will drive you forward. It is a day to reflect on all those who have hoped in the past, and to use their hope to inspire you. Sometimes hope may seem like all you have left, but it can’t be quashed. As Andy Dusfresne said in The Shawshank Redemption, "Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies."
