No, this is not a day for going out into the wild and hugging bears; it is a day when people hug their teddy bear, the comfort animal that was named after the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt. Since the creation of the teddy bear, it has become one of the most iconic toys and comfort items for children, and has also been featured in songs, television shows, and movies. Teddy bears have also become important collector's items for adults. But, maybe adults don't just collect bears because of their monetary value. A recent study found that over half of adults still have their favorite stuffed animal they grew up with, 40% sleep with it by their side, and 70% said they want to keep it for the rest of their lives! That makes it pretty easy for them to take out their teddy bear and give it a hug today!

Look At the Leaves

As we get deeper into fall, more leaves are changing color and starting to fall off of trees. In many areas the leaves are beautiful this time of year, making it fitting that today is Look at the Leaves Day. Leaves provide energy for trees and plants by converting sunlight into sugars and starches with a process called photosynthesis. During the spring and summer, leaves appear green because of a chemical called chlorophyll that allows them to photosynthesize.  As it begins to get cooler and the sun is out less as days shorten, trees start to store up energy for the winter, and the chlorophyll breaks down. Energy begins to be stored inside of trees instead of inside their leaves. Then colors such as orange, yellow, brown, red, and purple appear, some of which the chlorophyll had hid from being seen before.

For most people, Labor Day means two things: a day off and a chance to say goodbye to the summer. But why is it called Labor Day? Labor Day is a day set aside to pay tribute to working men and women. It has been celebrated as a national holiday in the United States and Canada since 1894. In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday, and the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a "workingmen's holiday" on that date. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations, and in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the country.

It’s the perfect time to have fun and decorate with as much red, white and blue as possible.  Party supply stores and online sites have great options for inexpensive small flags and party accessories perfect for all sorts of decorating. If you’re opting to put on your own show, make sure to check local rules and safety ordinances beforehand. Only adults should handle fireworks, and steer clear of buildings and vehicles. The National Council on Fireworks Safety also recommends extinguishing used fireworks in water and disposing them in a metal trashcan. July Fourth is a fun summer tradition that brings friends and family together. A little planning and a lot of patriotism will make your party shine bright this year.

Together they make up the largest body of freshwater on Earth and stretch 750 miles from east to west. They are located on the border of the United States and Canada and touch the states of Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, New York, and Pennsylvania. It is believed that at one time the Great Lakes were covered by a glacier—it receded towards Canada and left depressions filled with water.

These messages are often accompanied by the phrase "not found." Information is usually unable to be found because links are broken or dead, meaning the pages have been moved or deleted. Web servers often create custom 404 pages that contain a description, a site's branding, and humor. 404 Day fittingly takes place on the fourth day of the fourth month of the year.

Yard Act, Geese, Eels, Elvis Costello, Spoon, Pedro The Lion

The day's name gives the impression that perhaps sometimes people wave at their neighbors by only using some of their fingers. Being that the day is also about a "time to put it all aside," it seems to suggest them sometimes people "wave" at their neighbors when they aren't getting along with them. This is likely implying that sometimes neighbors give each other the finger. On today's holiday, they shouldn't do that, but should instead give a normal wave.
