Curmudgeons Freethinkers and Bubble Wrap

Curmudgeons Freethinkers and Bubble Wrap. The Hub Radio Show for Monday January 29. 2018. View the completely random playlist for 1-29-18 (CLICK HERE)

Born Ruffians, Oliver Spalding, Joe Kye, Jim James

Celebrate Curmudgeons Day by being a curmudgeon or watching a few good curmudgeons – Oscar the Grouch, Grumpy the Dwarf, John and Max from Grumpy Old Men, or (my personal favorite animated curmudgeon) Carl from Up!  Embrace Freethinkers Day by challenging arbitrary authority, questioning the status quo, and constructing logical and reasonable arguments against ingrained behavior.  Bubble Wrap appreciation day can best be spent by taking a big old roll of Bubble Wrap and popping every single bubble in the sheet. Share these with your friends and family who need a bit of stress relief, and then share another sheet with them, popping away.

She freed and floated on the air her arms
Above dim veils that hid her bosom's charms...
The veils fell round her like thin coiling mists
Shot through by topaz suns and amethysts

Conflict is taking a massive toll on people’s lives around the world. Trapped in wars not of their making, millions of civilians are forced to hide or run for their lives. Children are taken out of school, families are displaced from their homes and communities are torn apart, At the same time, health workers and aid workers—who risk their lives to care for people affected by violence—are increasingly being targeted. But the world is not doing enough to end their suffering.

Ivory is the traditional material for the 14th anniversary, but please only ever buy products that are made using imitation ivory which is often made using a composite sourced from non-endangered animal bones, tagua nuts, or some other non-animal source. Please never purchase real ivory because that supports an illegal and brutal elephant poaching industry.

Most media outlets love to treat a "supermoon" as some sort of special or unusual occurrence. Upon hearing that a specifically selected moon comes with the prefix "super" attached, people rush outside to get a look and come away thinking that they have just witnessed something akin to a rare cosmic alignment. Such feelings put a new spin on the whimsical tale penned in 1837 by Hans Christian Andersen, "The Emperor’s New Clothes."
