Taking its name from the inspirational book series Chicken Soup for the Soul, this holiday is about reflecting on and celebrating where you've been and where you are headed. According to multiple online sources, the publisher of the book series, Chicken Soup for the Soul Publishing, has said the day is "...a celebration of who you are, where you've been, where you're going, and who you will be thankful to when you get there!" Some online sources claim that the publisher created the day as well. However, Chicken Soup for the Soul did not do so, and it is unclear how the day got started. In 2014, owner and editor-in-chief Amy Newmark said about the holiday, "We did not create National Chicken Soup for the Soul Day, and we don’t know where it came from." She added that it had already been appearing on calendars at the time she came to the company in 2008. The day can also be used to celebrate Chicken Soup for the Soul books in general.
