Coddiwomple
Booker T. & The MGs, Beach Boys, Lee Michaels, Animals, Cat Stevens, Elton John
Coddiwomple
is a relatively new slang word which means ‘to travel in a purposeful manner
towards a vague destination'. Could be regarded as a “made up word” but that
would be silly because all words are made up. When you coddiwomple you have
your purpose, but you have no expectations of what you will find. It may
involve you driving around where you live, even walking around the area, long
road trips, holidays abroad or anything that just pushes you out of your comfort
zone! Have a purpose and go and see the world before it’s too late…get yourself
a bit coddiwompling in your life!

Hug A Bear
Sobs, The 1975 , Young The Giant, Tegan and Sara, The Go! Team
No, this is not a day for going out into the wild and hugging bears; it
is a day when people hug their teddy bear, the comfort animal that was
named after the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt. Since the creation of the teddy bear, it has become one of the most
iconic toys and comfort items for children, and has also been featured
in songs, television shows, and movies. Teddy bears have also become
important collector's items for adults. But, maybe adults don't just
collect bears because of their monetary value. A recent study found that
over half of adults still have their favorite stuffed animal they grew
up with, 40% sleep with it by their side, and 70% said they want to keep
it for the rest of their lives! That makes it pretty easy for them to
take out their teddy bear and give it a hug today!

Look At the Leaves
Alex G, Rhett Miller, The Tallest Man On Earth, Parekh & Singh, Whitney
As we get deeper into fall, more leaves are changing color and starting to fall off of trees. In many areas the leaves are beautiful this time of year, making it fitting that today is Look at the Leaves Day. Leaves provide energy for trees and plants by converting sunlight into sugars and starches with a process called photosynthesis. During the spring and summer, leaves appear green because of a chemical called chlorophyll that allows them to photosynthesize. As it begins to get cooler and the sun is out less as days shorten, trees start to store up energy for the winter, and the chlorophyll breaks down. Energy begins to be stored inside of trees instead of inside their leaves. Then colors such as orange, yellow, brown, red, and purple appear, some of which the chlorophyll had hid from being seen before.

Labor Day
Arctic Monkeys, Hot Chip, Drugdealer, Old Sea Brigade, Lukka
For most people, Labor Day means two things: a day off and a chance to say goodbye to the summer. But why is it called Labor Day?
Labor Day is a day set aside to pay tribute to working men and women.
It has been celebrated as a national holiday in the United States and
Canada since 1894. In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday, and
the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to
follow the example of New York and celebrate a "workingmen's holiday" on
that date. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations, and
in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the
country.

George Joseph Jetson
Death Cab For Cutie, Boy Golden, Day Wave, James Vincent McMorrow, Maggie Rogers
When George was a kid he went through ten miles of asteroid storms to go
to Orbit High School, where he was the star pitcher of its Spaceball
team. George is now an employee at Spacely's Space Sprockets, a
manufacturer of "sprockets" and other high tech equipment. His job title
is "digital index operator." His boss is Cosmo G. Spacely, noted for
being short in both height and temper; Spacely usually treats his
employees (particularly George) in a rather tyrannical fashion. George's
job primarily requires him to repeatedly push a single button. He is the husband of Jane Jetson and the father of teenage daughter Judy and elementary school aged son Elroy.
