Mike and Frank had picked through most of the obvious treasure and were about to call it a day when the shiny gleam of the mannequin head flashed in the sunny San Pedro yard and caught their eye.  The Sacred Heart statue was superglued into the old basin, never to be free of the cracked porcelain prison.  They bought the tin santo for 10 bucks.  Later...

Death peeks in

William loved his cat Cornell.  They would sit for hours and threaten to play.  Cornell saw Death first and wanted to alert William, but he never found the right moment to jump into the discussion.  Moments later they would both be on the unfinished wood floor no longer among the living.  His airplane picture would be mysteriously missing when the family came to clean out the house.  Later...

Elvis Boxer

To commemorate the day Elvis died in 1977 Maria created this Dios del Muerto doll.  She made the king of rock and roll a skeleton boxer because that is how she saw him when she closed her eyes and softly hummed Love Me Tender.  She saw him in Vegas in the 70s and still slept with the sweat-soaked white polyester scarf he gently wrapped around her neck one balmy August night.  Later...

The skitters slapped a harness on her but she was too old for the drugs to take.  She had build up a tolerance through constant abuse in junior high. Beulah found a bat and would open every alien skull she could find not because she wanted to save her home planet, but because she felt the violence was a better high.  Later...
