National Doctors Day honors America's physicians by recognizing their
contributions and service to individuals, communities, and the nation.
Health care organizations are at the forefront of the day's observation,
and patients and other benefactors of the healthcare industry are urged
to honor physicians as well. On March 30, 1958, the United States House of Representatives adopted a resolution commemorating the day. The holiday, which early on was simply called Doctors' Day, was created
by Eudora Brown Almond of Winder, Georgia, whose husband, Charles, was a
medical doctor. On the first observance, on March 30, 1933, cards were
mailed to physicians and their wives, flowers were put on the graves of
physicians.

While it may be disappointing to hear that so many sports events, cruises, festivals and other gatherings are being cancelled, there is a public health reason for these measures. These cancellations help stop or slow down the spread of disease allowing the health care system to more readily care for patients over time. Cancelling events that are likely to draw crowds is an example of social distancing. Social distancing is deliberately increasing the physical space between people to avoid spreading illness. Staying at least six feet away from other people lessens your chances of catching COVID-19.

The full worm moon, also known as a super worm moon, appears larger and brighter than other full moons and will reach peak fullness at 1:48 p.m. ET, according to the Farmer's Almanac, giving astronomers a great view when it rises above the horizon Monday night. Super moons that occur in March are nicknamed the "worm moon" because that's the time of year when earth worms tend to emerge from the ground as it begins to thaw from the departing cold of winter. A super moon occurs when a full moon or new moon coincides with the moon's position at its closest to earth, according to NASA.

Each month's full moon has its own distinct name. And for
March, the most common name is the Full Worm Moon. It can also be
referred to as the Full Sap Moon, given that the end of winter/early
spring is when sap begins flowing in maple trees. But the Full
Worm Moon is called so because it falls during a time of year when the
ground is beginning to thaw, and earthworms start resurfacing after the
cold winter. As such, this moon is all about the advent of spring.

Casimir Pulaski was a military leader and cavalryman from Poland, who was exiled to Paris, France, after trying to oust the Polish king, Stanislaw II, a ruler who was seen as a puppet of Russia. While in Paris, Pulaski met Marquis De Lafayette and Benjamin Franklin, and Franklin recruited him to come to America. There he served informally during the Revolutionary War, and fought in the battles of Brandywine and Germantown. George Washington then made him a Brigadier General and the first commander of the American Cavalry. The Continental Congress created the Pulaski Legion, made up of colonists and volunteers from France, Germany, and Poland. Pulaski died in 1779, after being mortally wounded at the Siege of Savannah. He came to be seen as a Revolutionary War hero, and towns and counties were named in his memory.
